OPINION | Who will speak for the poor? #ClimateChange

Imagine we are both trapped in a life threatening situation. I take out my phone and notify my Insurance Company which then dispatch a helicopter to rescue me. When the helicopter arrives it rescues me and leave you helpless at the scene because you are not covered by the insurance. That's what happens in a world where Capital is more important than a human life.

We now know that the climate is changing at a rapid pace and we are more likely to see greater disasters in the future. Our country is the most unequal society in the world. The wealthy have insurances to cover a quick retreat to safety or a temporary accommodation while the poor have nothing and no one to rely on. It's survival of the fittest. Your ability to survive is dependent on what is in your purse. Capitalism at its best!!

Who will speak for the poor?

I am convinced that we need to go back to being children of the world again. We must become more radical in our practice of Ubuntu by being more selfless amid these challenging times. Not a single one of us is an island to themselves. No matter how smart you think you are You will never be smart enough to survive alone. No matter how rich you are Your wealth alone cannot keep you safe and alive. We Need Each Other. #Ubuntu #LeaveNoOneBehind
